On the Road Again!

I've just started getting ready for our big road trip. Chris and I will be leaving in about 2 weeks! its crazy this year has gone so fast. This past weekend we put all out stuff on Craig's list and we thought it would take a while to sell but our place is almost empty! We're going to take the LONG way home. were going down through the south. I really wanted to see Savannah. Then straight through Texas, and up the California coast. I can't wait to see Big Sur and the redwoods. We're planning on taking about 2 weeks. my little Prius is going to be stuffed with all out stuff. I'm looking forward to the trip and getting back home to Seattle.

BANANA BREAD

In the recent weeks I've become obsessed with banana bread. I LOVE IT. I've tried a couple of recipes and I've come up with this recipe based off of a recipe I found on the food network web site courtesy of Cathy Lowe.

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
4 very ripe bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup Walnut oil or almond oil (i found that is gave it a nice rich flaor, but you can use veggie oil too)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Optional 1 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and powder, salt. In a large bowl cream together eggs and sugar. Stir in mashed bananas, vanilla, oil and cinnamon. Stir in flour mixture, a third at a time, until just combined. Bake for about 1 hour.

A slice toasted with peanut butter and a latte or glass of milk!!!! heaven

Retro Dress

I can wear the belt with other outfits, and the pockets at pretty sweet.

So I've been working on this dress that I started in sewing class. I just finished it. I found the pattern in a pile of really old patterns that the sewing school had collected over the years. I came across this little gem and happily it was my size. I got my fabric at walmart and paid a grand total of $4. The collar is a little big, so i'm still working on tailoring it to fit me just right, but its basically done!

Please ignore the double chin and the awkward angle. I had to take the picture myself. I wish I looked as suave as this bizzy. I love her crazy fur hat!

In the future when I have money and need a storage unit I will buy this RAKKE Ikea wardrobe for $349. I'll paint all the doors different colors and in the end it will resemble an abrstract painting. Its just so simple and clean. One day....

Swap Party!

One of my favorite bloggers, sfgrilbybay, recently posted about her and her friends annual SWAP Party, where they all bring old clothes that they don't want anymore and switch! I thought this was a wonderful idea and I have been inspired to start planning my own Swap. For some reason I've been wanting to throw a big old party recently. I'm going to make invitationa any everything. maybe a theme? any ideas? I love this picture of a garden party posted by absolutely beautiful things! I don't think my party will look like that... but its an inspiration!

WORKING OUT. not always fun. But good for you. Recently I've been trying to get into shape but also I've been really trying to feel good about myself and my body. One thing I've been thinking about is what I wear when I work out. I basically look like a slob. Gross old TShirts, old, pilly, work out pants. The clothes that you wear have an effect on how you feel, and you confidence for sure. I need new work out clothes! I don't like the way spandex and other sinthetic fabrics feel one my skin when I sweat. I like cotton! very simple, yet chic style

Retail Therapy

After a stressful day at work I made an unscheduled stop at target.... I know, thats probably not the best idea, especially for a gal who can barely pay her rent, but I spent a grand total of $22. And for those $22 I got two pairs of shoes, two red wire baskets, a spray bottle (for our new cactus named Helsico) a tin bucket, and a rectangular tin that I'm going to use as a herb planter. everything was on sale or in the $1 section. I got some white canvas vans-like slip ons and some silly red jellies (that were about $4!). I think it was the most budget friendly unnecessary shopping spree I've ever committed.

PS sorry the picture is sooo lame. I took it on my bed while I was in it... I'm feeling quite lazy.

Sunday

It was a beautiful Sunday. It felt quite spring like. It was almost hot in the sun. I made yummy waffles with bananas, yogurt and walnuts. after breakfast I opened all the windows and did my spring cleaning! which is cause for excitement if your an OCD freak like me. I cleaned out my closet. I know it doesn't look organized but it is. then in the latter afternoon when I was all done Chris and I went to the wood star cafe and had a little snack/lunch. we stopped in at the book store and I picked up Pride and Prejudice, something I've always meant to read, and the Diving bell and the Butterfly. Chris and I saw the movie version last night and it was wonderful and very beautiful so I thought I should read the book. It's about a man who has a massive stroke and is totally parallelized but he is metal conscious. He communicates by blinking his eye. the entire book was dictated by him through blinking his eye. its an amazing/wonderful true story. But I digress. Then I made a tasty beef sir fry and we watched Micheal Clayton on DVD, another great movie to end the weekend. Chris got me some daffodils
